I Laid Eyes Upon This Molly

An anniversary poem for my Bella, my soul sister, my turtle island traveler, and my forever favorite friend.

When I first laid eyes upon this molly,

I couldn’t be more blind.

Her toes were long, her leg was bowed,

I thought - she’s just my kind!

The farmer said, “She’s cheap for good reason,

In pain and tears, you’ll wallow.”

Yes, I’ve been thrown a time or two,

But without a hurt a heart is hollow…

Now here we are three years since then,

By my side a true and steady friend.

And each day I wake I thank the Lord,

for that trade, I made in folly…

Because I know I am so lucky,

I laid eyes upon this molly!

So cheers to you, my friend! Three years with you, my friend! And a lifetime more to follow!
